The famous temple town of Kumbakonam located on the banks of River Kaveri has many holy bathing ghats across the region. Sarkarai Padithurai Ghat or Chakkarai Padithurai is one among these holy ghats to take dips to remove the sins of life. This holy ghat has important place in the Kumbabhishekam Mahamaham. Devotees take holy dips in this ghat to complete the Kumbakonam visit.
Other bathing ghats on the banks of Kaveri include Amma Mandapam in Srirangam, Bhagavath Padithurai in Kumbakonam, Pushya Mandapa Padithurai in Thiruvaiyaru and Thula Kattam in Mayavaram.
