Location
Gaganachukki Falls is the biger of the two waterfalls at Shivanasamudra, shaped like a large horsetail falling from a height of 98 meters.
The water is used for Asia’s first hydro electric power project that was established in 1902. It was earlier called as Shri Vishveshwaraya Hydroelectric Plant but was later remanamed as Shimsha Power Grid. The power project was commissionesd by Diwan of Mysore Shri K Sheshadri Iyer to power the Kolar Gold Field and is functional even today. There is a dargah near the Gaganachukki waterfall.
The water flow at Gaganachukki Falls is rapid and rock surfaces are deceptive thus making it dangerous to swim.
