Sheetla Temple of Kara

Location

The historical and religious importance of Kara is very old. This place is situated in the north-west of Allahabad about 69 km away. There are so many temples in Kara in which Sheetla Mata temple, Chhetrapal Bhairav temple, Hanuman temple and Kaleshwar Mahadev temple are famous.

The temple of ma Sheetla is situated on the bank of Ganga river. It is known as the major shaktipeeth from all the 51 shaktipeeths of Goddess. In the idol, Sheetla Devi is sitting on gardhabha (ass). Followers of all the religions worship in this temple. It is said that by the worship of Goddess Sheetla on the ashtami of Krishnapaksha of the month of chetra they get rid of evil powers.

Patthar Ghat

Location

Tikait Rai, a minister of Awadh State, laid The foundation stone of this red sandstone ghat. There is a massive temple her dedicated to Lord Shiva. The shivlinga in the temple is made of "Kasauti" or the philosopher's stone. Kanpur is a place of religious and traditional attractions. Located near the city is a center of Hindu pilgrimage, known as Brahmavarta or Bithoor. Patthar Ghat is situated on the bank of the Ganges in Bithoor. The Patthar Ghat, built of red stone by Tikait Rai the minister of Awadh state, is a bathing place for the devotees.

Kanpur Memorial Church

Location

The Kanpur Memorial Church, also known as the All Souls Cathedral was built in memory of all those British soldiers who lost their lives in the war of 1857. The church architecture reflects the Lombardic Gothic style with bright red bricks used for the construction of the church buildings. An architect of East Bengal Railway, Walter Granville, designed the church and gave it the status of a beautiful monument in history.

Jain Glass Temple

Location

The Jain Glass temple, one of the attractive tourist spots in Kanpur, is a temple dedicated to Jainism. Constructed in the traditional old style of architecture, this temple is completely built in glass, beautifully adorned and decorated with intricate designs in enamel and glass. One can view the mind-blowing spread of ornate mirror work in and around the temple on the walls, floors and ceilings. The stained glass murals and paintings depict the Jain scriptures.

Bhitargaon Temple

Location

Bhittargaon temple is an ancient temple built out of large bricks, standing tall at 15.41 meters. This ancient temple is a masterpiece of the Gupta period, set in mud mortar and is an example of skillful craftsmanship of workers who decorated the exteriors of the temple with intricate carvings on the brick and terracotta panels.

Siddheswar temple

Location

The 500 years old Siddheswar temple on the Ganges draws a large number of devotees during Sharad Purnima (full moon in October). After a holy dip in the river, they offer prayers at the temple. The otherwise quiet riverbank gets transformed into a bustling Mela or fair ground in a matter of a few hours.
