Vasishtha Ashram

Location

Vasishtha / Basistha, the learned sage, is credited with writing the Hindu epic of Vasishtha Ramayana (behind the scenes Ramayana). The fact that this epic has survived millenniums, has been translated into several languages and is still recited daily in majority households speaks volumes about the abilities and knowledge of the author. The sage is believed to have created the Ashram and later died here. A grave dedicated to the Sage can be seen at the Ashram.

Asvakranta Temple

Location

Asvakranta Temple is a highly revered pilgrimage centre of Assamese. It is one of the most important shrines of lord Vishnu. It is located on a rocky area near the Brahmaputra river, Guwahati. The temple offers great views of its surroundings. It is believed that a visit to this shrine washes away all the sins of a person and help him to attain moksha (salvation). The deity worshipped here is called Anantasayin Vishnu. The idol of Anantasayin looks very beautiful. The term 'Anantasayin' refers to the sitting position of the lord Vishnu on the serpent.

Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple - Kadiri

Location

Kadiri is a small settlement situated at a distance of 90 kms from Anantapur. It is known for Lord Lakshmi Narasimha Swami Temple, a shrine where the presiding deity 'Swayambhu' emerged from the roots of Khadri tree. The main attraction here is that the idol sweats. Rathothsavam (Car Festival) is the major event observed here every year, summoning many pilgrims from all over the state.

Penna Ahobilam

Location

Situated near Anantapur, Penna Ahobilam is renowned for its Lord Narasimha Swamy Temple. The shrine presents a beautiful vista of the bubbling rivulet of Pennar. According to the legends, the temple was constructed on the footprints of Lord Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy that measured 5 feet 3 inches. Prominent place for marriage ceremonies, this temple observes an ostentatious car festival every year. Adi Laxmi Devi Temple and Chenchu Laxmi Devi Temple are two other temples in the complex.

Lepakshi Temple

Lepakshi is actually a small village that is situated in the east of Hindupur, which falls under the Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh. This settlement is famous for its artistic temples, which date back to the 16th century. A striking specimen of the Vijayanagar style of architecture is the Lepakshi Temple. It has a huge complex where three shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu and Lord Virabhadra are to be found. Lord Virabhadra is the wrathful form of Shiva, the patron deity of the Nayak rulers.

Saraswati Temple

It is one of the two oldest temples of Goddess Saraswati. Basara, abode to Gnana Saraswati, is a small village near Nizamabad city that comes under Adilabad district of Andhra Pradesh. Here is located the ancient temple of Gnana Sarasvati - the Goddess of Knowledge. It is believed to be one of the two oldest temples of Goddess Saraswati in India, the other being located in Kashmir. Sited at the convergence of rivers Mangira and Godavari, Saraswati Temple appears serene and pious in the rustic setting.
