Makhel

Location

Makhel is the historical place of Naga breakup and the legendary place of common origin of the Meiteis and Nagas. Makhel has the oldest pear tree, memorial to the breakup. Dzukou valley here with its pristine beauty flourishes with a rare lily in the month of May to July. The Regional Potato Farm offers scenic view of the steep drop to Ikhro near the highway. Mount Isu is the highest peak in the region.

Holding immense historic importance, Makhel is the place of Naga breakup and the land of common origin of the Meiteis and Nagas.

Mao

Location

Mao is one of the oldest Hill Stations of Manipur bordering Nagaland lying on the way between Dimapur and Imphal on the NH 39, at an altitude of 5762.02 ft above sea level. The Mao Inspection Bungalow built by the Royal Military Engineers in year 1897 is a hundred years old structure. You can also see the Mao Naga Dance, which depicts the cultural mosaic of Manipur.

Maibam Lotpa Ching

Location

It is a hillock about 16 km from Imphal on Tiddim Road. It is a thrilling spot where a fierce battle took place between the British and the Japanese force in World War II and regarded as a holy place. There is also a monument in memory of the Japanese Martyrs who sacrificed their lives in this fierce battle.

Moirang

Location

Moirand located at a distance of about 45 kms from Imphal is known for the festival 'Lai harouba' which falls in the month of May.
Moirang is a religious place and a centre of Meithei culture. It is located 45 km from Imphal. This place has a temple, which is dedicated to the pre-Hindu deity Thangjing. With the arrival of May every year, this place comes alive with the celebration of a grand festival. Another tourist attraction of Moirang is a memorial and museum, which commemorate the unfurling of Indian flag by Indian National Army, under Netaji Subhash Chandra Boss.

Langthabal

Location

It is 6kms from Imphal on the Indo-Myanmar road. Langthabal is a small hillock rich in the relics of an old historical place, well-planned tempted to revisit with packed lunch and a bunch of bum-chums.

This small hillock is situated about 8 kms. from Imphal on the Indo-Burma Road and houses an old historic palace and neatly planned temples. The structures are beautifully placed between pine and jackfruit trees. Langthabal offers a view of the Manipur University.

Khongjom

Location

It is situated on the Indo-Myanmar Road, 36Kms away from Imphal. It is a place of utmost historical importance. Khonjom was the venue where Major General Paona Brajabashi and other brave Manipuri warriors proved their worth in warfare against the mighty force of the invading British Army in 1891. Khongjom is regarded in awe as a symbol of patriotism and valour. A war memorial laid on the top of this venerable hill adds the historical ambience of the heroic site. Khongjom Day is observed as a State Function every year on April 23.
