Jhajjar Kotli

Location

Jhajjar Kotli is a tourist complex about 15 km from Katra, built at the banks of river Jhajjar. It is located on the National Highway 1A that leads towards Srinagar. The clear, cold water of Jhajjar is the main attraction. Jhajjar Kotli is a tourist picnic spot, which is known for its natural beauty. There is a luxurious tourist bungalow maintained by Jammu & Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation.

Sanjichhat

Location

Sanjichhat is a beautiful spot located at a distance of 3.25 km from Adhkunwari. The beautiful view of the valley and snow covered peak of Himalayas can be seen from this spot. It is the highest point on the old track and an end point to the uphill climb. To reach the Bhawan, tourists have to walk downhill from Sanjichhat.

Himkoti

Location

Himkoti is visited by tourists as the sight gives a beautiful view of the entire valley. It is situated at a distance of 2.75 km from Adhkunwari on the new track. The sight does not have any traditional or religious significance but is visited only because of its natural splendour.

Adhkunwari

Location

Adhkunwari is located about 6 km from Katra, at an altitude of 4,800 ft. It is a half way mark to the journey to holy cave. Adhkunwari is considered to be one of the most important darshans where Mata Vaishno Devi is believed to have meditated for nine months.

An exit on the other end of the cave was created by Mata with her trident, when Bhairon Nath approached the cave. The cave is shaped like a womb and is very narrow. Only one person can pass through this cave at a time.

It takes hours for each tourist to get a turn to pass through this cave. In 24 hours, not more than 4,000 devotees can pass this cave. Devotees wishing to pass through the cave are issued a group number. Each group consists of 50 devotees.

Magam is located in the Budgam District at an elevation of about 1,569 m. Located 18 km away from Gulmarg, this famous town has about 60% Shia Muslim population. Situated on Srinagar Gulmarg Road, the town has the largest market place of Budgam District.

Pattan

Location

Pattan is located about 40 km away from Gulmarg, at an elevation of 1,553 m. This historical town is considered to have been established by the famous Hindu Raja Shankarvarman in the 9th century. In ancient times, the town was named Shankerpur, after Raja Awantiwarman, father of Raja Shankarvarman. During bygone days, the town used to be a big market place of cotton, cattle and fruits.

Tangmarg

Location

Tangmarg, situated in Baramulla District, is about 13 km way from Gulmarg. It is amongst the 8 taluks of Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir. Tangmarg is famous throughout the region for its handicraft works.

Situated on the foothills of the Pir Panjal Range, Tangmarg is home to some of the beautiful tourist attractions like Ferozpore Nallah, Waters Meet and Baba Reshi Shrine.
