Shembaganur Museum of Natural History

Location

6 kilometres (3.7 mi) from the bus-stand, founded in 1895, is open to the public (except Tuesdays) for viewing their outstanding taxidermy collection of more than 500 species of animals, birds and insects and a living collection of over 300 exotic orchid species. The museum is affiliated with Loyola College in Chennai and exhibits artifacts of the ancient Palaiyar tribes people whose descendants still live in these hill.

Wax Museum

Location

Although in general India is all about different kinds of temples and religious monuments, there are some different type of interesting places to go in India that will definitely be of value to you. Wax Museum is definitely one of those places. Wax Museum is situated in Kanyakumari region in the city of Baywatch. The museum houses all the important figures of the Indian History as well as the world history in wax form. The wax figures are realistic and the Wax Museum is reminiscent of its famous counterpart in London.

Chettinad Museum

Location

The Chettinad Museum was once a magnificent residence which has now been converted into the museum. Its valuable exhibits include exclusive pieces of jewelry, old artifacts, traditional household and kitchen equipment, elaborately hand-woven textiles, and other items identified with the peculiar lifestyle of the community.

Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum

Location

The Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum is built for the various scientific disciplines. All the exhibits are placed behind the glass panels. When buttons are pressed the experiments begin.

The electrotechnic Gallery has many departments. A wall display of long distance telephone can also be seen. It has a life size model of a man and a woman caring a plant. There is an engrossing wall posture of the map of India. It is a cabinet with various buttons.

Venkatappa Art Gallery and Government Museum

Location

The Venkatappa Art Gallery is situated in the Karnataka Government Museum. It exhibits some of the rich art of Bangalore. The Art Gallery is comprised of two floors and displays 600 paintings.

The government museum was established in the year 1865. The museum has exhibits of antiquities from Mohenjadaro and terracotta from Mathura. It contains traditional paintings also. The museum is a must visit place for art lovers. It has some of the exclusive collections of scenic displays. The museum also has some of the great works of the famous artist K. Venkatappa.

Open Air Museum

Location

The museum is situated at the foothills of the northern hill which contains the northern fort. It was instituted in 1979. The museum mainly constitutes prehistorical stone equipments and sculptures which dates between 6th to 16th century AD.

The museum has four galleries. It has an open gallery in the porch and an open air gallery in front. Exhibits of Shiva and Vishnu can be seen in the museum.

The museum is open between 10 am and 5 pm. It remains closed on Fridays. Entrance fee is Rs 2/- per head. No fee is charged for children below 15 years.

Subramanya Bharathi Museum

Location

Barathi Memorial Museum, located at Pondicherry Town, was the residence of the great Tamil poet-patriot Subramaniya Bharathi, who arrived Pondicherry in 1908. Subramania Bharati, who lived for a span of 1882 to 1921, was a well-known writer who introduced modernism and distinction in Tamil literature. He has written and has the credit of a number of patriotic and devotional songs. Most of his writings vividly dealt with contemporary social affairs. This Museum displays photographs of the poet, manuscripts, and letters written by him.
