Nagoba Mandir

Location

The Nagoba Mandir is about 20 minutes from Saswane Beach and 16 km from Alibaug . Inside bells are hung clusters or single. Devotees come here to pray for good luck and return to tie the bells when their wishes are granted. This temple is home to snakes which are not poisonous and the central idol is covered with them. The temple houses the samadhi of a saint known to possess divine powers. There is a sign `Nagobacha Tappa’ which warns people that snakes roam around the temple.

The Nagoba Mandir is 16 km away from Alibag. It is at a distance of 20 minutes walk from the Saswane Beach.

Once inside the temple one is greeted with bells and bells which are hung in clusters. The bells are in groups of 4, 6 and 12. There is only one Cymbal.

People flock here for divine favours. They return to the bells when their wishes are granted. The main and the central idol is a hooded snake. The story behind this is that someone had a snake bite and the venom magically disappeared here. The temple is also the house of the samadhi of a saint who had divine powers.
