Kedareshwara temple, a Chalukyan style temple with two Hoysala emblems, is very famous where the sculptor’s talent seems to have overwhelmed even the goldsmith’s skill in its sheer sophistication. The mix of architecture will overwhelm anybody.
The Kedareshwara temple, assumed to be built in 1319 AD, is a collapsed structure now that has never been restored to its original shape. Besides the stylishly engraved walls and the ceiling, the basement of the temple showcases a plethora of sculptured friezes highlighting stories of the epics Ramayana, Mahabharata and the renowned Bhagavad Gita.
The sanctorum houses a Kedareshwara (Shiva) Linga made by Krishnashila, a variety of black stone. To the south of it is Brahma linga and the statue of Janardhana at the north. The temple has three summits with middle one is bigger than the other two. The statues of Tandaveshwara, Uma Maheshwara, Bhairava, Varaha and many other gods illustrate the mythology behind the summits. All these sculptures give the clear picture of the cultural greatness and artistic achievements of Chalukyas.
