Kamalasagar Kali Temple

Location

The rich heritage of Tripura vividly reflects in its temples like Kamlasagar Kali. Besides being a known temple, Kamalasagar Kali Temple also attracts tourists because of its natural beauty. It is also know as Kasba Kali Bari temple. It is located on a hillock overlooking a beautiful lake named Kamala Sagar. The lake at the border of Bangladesh offers wonderful views of its surroundings and is often flocked by the local people for picnic. This huge lake was made by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya Bahadur in the late 15th century.

The Kamalasagar Kali temple houses an image of the goddess that looks like that of Dasabhuja Durga or Mahishasurmardini. The image is made of sandstone which is worshipped as Ma Kali. There is a Shivlangam present at the feet of the image, giving the temple its name Kalibari. Devotees flock to this temple in large numbers especially during festivals. The temple was built in the 17th century.
