Beejamandal Temple

Location

A not yet excavated ruined temple of Khajuraho, Beejamandal temple is located at Vidisha. The popular belief is that this formation was under a huge stack of earth which was marked on the top by a white stone. From time immemorial the villagers regularly lit the holy oil-lamp each night on this mound.

The temple depicts the idols of Lord Shiva and goddess Parvati along with other sculptures of human forms, describing vivid postures. Marvelously carved images of animals, beautiful pillars and walls with intricate stone carvings have been unearthed from here. Sculptures and carvings show some sort of Indonesian or South-East Asian influence on them.
