Shree Bhagwati Temple, (Pernem)
28 kms from Panaji in Pernem Taluka, the temple is said to be more than 500 years old. Made of black stone, two life size images of elephants in a standing position at the entrance welcomes visitors.. Dussehra is celebrated with gaiety when over 25 thousand devotees assemble at the temple.
Since Pernem is predominantly a Hindu town, there are a number of important temples here. Bhagavati and Sapteshwar Bhagamati at Mandrem are some of the famous temples that attract a large number of devotees especially during the 7 days "Bhajanisaptah" at Mandrem, the Zatra, Dussehra and "Shimgo". Besides the main deities, there are some exquisitely sculptured ancillary deities.
