Dhar

Dhar is a small town located in the Malwa region of western Madhya Pradesh. It is picturesquely situated among lakes and trees surrounded by barren hills, and possesses, besides its old walls, many interesting buildings, both Hindu and Muslim, some of them containing records of cultural and historical importance. Dhar does not just contain important historical monuments, its scenic beauty is also something to be enjoyed and appreciated.

History

Founded by Raja Bhoja who did the honours at Bhopal, Bhojpur and Mandu, was the capital of Malwa until Mandu gained prominence. The place was ruled by the Sultans of Delhi during the Mughal Period. It was also a prime center in the Revolt of 1857.

By Road: Dhar is well connected to the major towns and cities of Madhya Pradesh by road. Dhar is located at a distance of 33 km from Maheshwar, 35 km from Mandu and 64 km from Indore.
