Sprawled across 285 sq. km. this Sanctuary is home to rare fauna. The oldest teak tree, Kannimari stands tall here. Boating/cruising facilities are available at the Reservoir . Ph.04253-67233/ 67228 permitting authority: Divitional Forest Officer.
The forests of Nelliyampathy are abundant with numerous varieties of plants, animals and avian species. The Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary, situated near Nelliyampathy, is famous for its large population of bisons or wild gaurs. Also found here are langur, spotted deer, bear, tiger, leopard and also the lion-tailed macaque. The Cannimare Teak, the largest teak tree of its kind in Asia is abundant in these forests. The wildlife sanctuaries of Anamalai and Peechi/Vazhani are also not too far from here.
