Lachen

Location

Lachen, inhabited by Tibetan and Bhutia communities, is situated on the North Sikkim Highway, near the town of Thangu. It is a gateway to the Gurudongmar Lake and the Chopta Valley.

The Lachen Monastery is the major attraction of the town constructed in 1806. The monastery follows the Nyingma sect of Buddhism.

The Cho-Lhamu Lake is situated nearby and can be visited by taking prior permission from the governing authority. The Green Lake, another attraction in Lachen, can also be reached by trekking from Lachen.
