Chausath Yogini Temple

Location

Situated stop a hillock and approached by a long flight of steps, the Chausat Yogini Temple commands a singularly beautiful view of the Narmada flowing through the Jagged Marble Rocks. Dedicated to goddess Durga, this 10th century temple has exquisitely carved stone figures of deities belonging to the Kalchuri period. According to a local legend, this ancient temple is connected to the Gond Queen Durgavati's palace through an underground passage. The oldest temple in Khajuraho, Chausath Yogini Temple is dedicated to the 64 yoginis who are the materialization of the Mother Goddess Shakti. Believed to be a 9th century monument, this temple is in a dilapidated state and the public access is restricted in this area.

Brahma Temple

Location

Built in 900, Brahma Temple is situated on the banks of the Ninora Tal, the largest tank in Khajuraho. It contains the images of Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu. A small square shaped shrine, Brahma Temple rests on twelve pillars of granite at an elevation of 11 feet high platform.

Adinath Temple

Location

A sumptuously decorated temple with beautiful sculptures, Adinath Temple is dedicated to the Jain saint, Adinath. Believed to be built in the 11th century, this temple is an important constituent of the Jain group of temples. The walls are adorned with beautifully carved figures of court musicians. Though the temple had not been restored to its former shape, some sort of renovations helped to maintain its former glory. Only the sanctum and vestibule of the old shrine has been survived the beatings of time.

A modern entrance chamber, made of lime-plastered masonry, showing arched doorways, replaces its ‘mandapa’ and entrance porch. The temple is constructed in the form of 'sapta-ratha', and its single towered 'shikhara' gives the shrine a graceful look.

Khajrana (Ganesh Temple)

Location

Khajrana is a famous temple of Lord Ganesh where pilgrims throng every day as it is believed that prayers and wishes made to the deity here are always granted.

An important pilgrimage center, Khajrana Ganesh temple in Indore is a devotees delight. This temple, which is built by Rani Ahalya Bhai Holkar is a crowd puller in the locality. It is believed that all the wishes will be fulfilled after praying here. Large numbers of devotees gather here on Wednesdays and Sundays to offer their reverence and prayers.

Kanch Mandir (Glass Temple)

Location

Kanch Mandir or “Glass Temple” is a 19th century Jain temple made of colored glass. Built by Seth Hukamchand the temple is extravagantly decorated with thousands of mirrors, chandeliers, bright ceramic tiles and murals on glass. At the top is a special glass chamber with three statues of Lord Mahavira. The mirrors are said to multiply these three statues 21 times corresponding to the 21 tirthankaras. The temple is a short walk west of the Rajwada.

A temple made of mirrors, which arrests the attention of the spectator, Kanch Mandir in Indore is a flamboyant Jain Temple. Every nook and corner of this beautiful shrine is laid with glass. Also known as Seth Hukamchand Temple, Kanch Mandir exhibits an exquisite spectacle and a celebration in glass.
