Dudhpukur Tank

Location

An important tank known as Dudhpukur tank is placed north of the Tarakeshwar temple and pilgrims unfailingly take a dip in it. It is believed that the holy bath in this tank can give the people all well being and it will fulfill the wishes and prayers.

The legendary stories behind the Tarakeshwar temple connects the Dudhpukur (Milk tank) with the establishment of the temple for Shiva. The water in this tank is believed to be medicated and has curative powers. Devotees can make the mind and body purified by taking a bath in this tank.

Dudhpukur Tank is one of the main attractions of Tarakeshwar village, which is situated towards the north of Tarakeshwar Temple. Dudhpukur Tank, which is associated with the temple, means Milk Tank. Pilgrims visiting Tarakeshwar temple often take a dip in this tank for the fulfilment of their wishes. It is also believed that the water in the tank possesses medicinal properties and a bath here can keep one healthy.

As per folklore, the tank was built at the time of the construction of the temple in the year 1729 by Raja Bharamalla.
