Walong

Location

Walong, also known as 'a place full of bamboos', is located at an elevation of about 1,094 m. Situated on the west bank of the Lohit River, Walong is around 20 km from the Chinese Border. It is a Circle Headquarter and is historically important as it witnessed various battles during the time of Chinese invasion in 1962.

The major attraction around Walong is Namti Valley, also known as Namti Maidan, 7 km from this place. Surrounded by old pines, this valley has also witnessed brave Indian soldiers, who died during the war of 1962. Moreover, a war memorial was constructed in honour of these soldiers and bears an inscription to commemorate their sacrifice.

Tourists can also visit a hot spring, which is located at a distance of 4 km from Walong. This spring is situated at the confluence of the Lohit and Dichu River.
