Sri Sri Shyamrai Satra

Location

Around 366 years ago, the Shyamrai Satra, the hub of Vaishnavite culture and religion was established in the heart of the town of Goalpara. It was managed by two brothers – Late Raghu Medhi and Late Kush Medhi. However, initiatives were taken by the locals of Goalpara to establish a permanent base of the Satra. Hence, they approached the Meshpara Estate Zamindar, who offered 8 bighas of land in the centre of Goalpara for establishing this Satra. One of the most interesting aspects of the Satra is that the Asthi of Sri Manta Sankardeva has been preserved by the Satra authority. The Asthi is displayed during the celebration of Sankar Jayanti in the month of Sukla Dasami in Satra campus.
