Shree Shivchhatrapati Temple

Location

The Maratha King Chhattrapati Shivaji believed in residing his follower’s hearts. However, his son Rajaram decided to create a temple dedicated to his father. Thus came up the Shri Shivchhatrapati temple on the Sindhudurg in 1695.

The familiar idol of the King has been depicted as in Yogic Veerasan pose. The idol itself has been carved out of black stone and is complete with all the details of the Kings appearance including the legendary beard except maybe the strange headgear that has been presented instead of the familiar conical crown.

Also available on the tower near Dilli gate, are 2 domes where Shivaji's foot prints alongside his palm prints dried lime slabs are preserved.
