Pari Mahal (Quntilon)

Location

Once the royal observatory, Pari Mahal has a charmingly laid out garden and is a five-minute drive from Cheshmashahi. A Buddhist monastery at one time, it was converted into a school of astrology by Dara Shikoh, Mughal Emperor Shah Jehan's eldest son. Situated on the spur of a mountain overlooking the Dal, the ancient monument, with a well-laid spacious garden in front, is connected to Cheshmashahi by road. It is illuminated at night.

Pari Mahal means House of the Fairies also known as Quntilon, is a historic monument placed above the beautiful Chashma Shahi Gardens near Srinagar. Ancient old monument brings out the architectural brilliance of the foregone age. A well-laid spacious garden surrounds this house, which was once a Buddhist monastery and later served as a school of astrology promoted by the eldest son of Shah Jahan, Dara Shikoh.

The garden, in the lawn of Pari Mhal with a small spring in the middle, has blossomed by beautiful flowers and bears various kinds of fruit. This garden also overlooks the picturesque Dal Lake.
