Mullaiyanagiri Peak

Location

Mullaiyanagiri hilltop, the highest peak in the state of Karnataka, has an overall height of 6,317 ft above sea level. Mullaiyanagiri is the highest mountain peak between the Himalayas and the Nilgiris and is to the north of Chikmagalur town. It is one of the peaks in the Baba-Budan Range, known anciently as Chandra Drona Parvatha.

The temple of Bijli Mahadev is constructed at the top of Mullaiyanagiri peak. Nearly 300 steps made of stones lead to this temple. It is assumed that Lord Shiva appeared here to protect the devotees from a lightning strike. The absorbing scenery around the peak makes it a much frequented tourist spot.
