Location

Kanheri caves are located well inside the thick forest area of Sanjay Gandhi National Park in Borivali. These caves numbering about 109 built during the Maurya and Kushana period dates back to 2nd century BC to 9th century. These caves were served as Buddhist Viharas. Each of this caves are adorned with stone plinth used as bed and stupa with massive huge pillars. The inscriptions based on Buddha’s life and preaching are worth for a visit.
