Kaina

Location

It is a beautiful hillock about 29kms from Imphal on Imphal-Yairipok Road. Kaina is a sacred place of the Hindus. Hill shrubs and natural surroundings give the place a saintly solemnity Ceremonial dances depicting the divine dream are performed as Rasa Lila at the Mandop.

Occupying an important place in the hearts of Hindus, Kaina(also spelt Koina) is a famous religious centre of Manipur. This is a scared place of Hindus and is 29 kms. from Imphal. According to legend, Shri Govindajee appeared to Bheigyachandra, Maharaja of Manipur, in a dream and asked him to build a temple enshrined with His image carved out of a jackfruit tree. Beautiful hill shrubs and charming natural surroundings give the place a saintly solemnity. Ceremonial dances depicting the divine dream are performed here every now and then as Ras at the Mandop. Kaina can be reached by bus via Thoubal also.
