Gokulnanda Temple

Location

Gokul Nanda temple in Vrindavan is an ancient temple that holds the idols of Radha-Vinoda of Lokanatha Gosvami, the bigger deities of Vijaya Govinda of Baladeva Vidyabhusana and the Radha-Gokulananda deities of Viswanath Chakravarti. It also holds a Govardhana shila, which contains thumbprint of Lord Chaitanya. It is believed that lord Chaitanya gave this shila to Raghunath Dasa Gosvami.

The temple houses the Pratibhu murti of Radha Vinoda since the original idols were taken to Jaipur in order to save them from the Muslim aggressors. Though the murtis are not original it do have all the potency as that of the original ones. The small courtyard adjacent to the temple houses the samadhis of Narottama Dasa, Lokanatha Gosvami, and Visvanatha Cakravarti. The tmple premises also holds the puspha samadhis of Krishnadeva Sarvabhauma and Sri Ganga Narayana Chakravarti.
