Dutch Fort (Danish Fort) is a 17th century marvel at Tranquebar, located at a driving distance from Nagapattinam. Danish Fort was constructed in 1620 and still stands as a marvelous specimen of Danish architecture. In fact it is considered as the masterpiece of Danish architectural design and style in India.
The fort was renovated and presently it is in perfect condition. The adornments like carvings, paintings and inscriptions are prominently seen. The fort, presently under the control and maintenance of Tamil Nadu Archeological Department, attract all kinds of tourists. An Archaeological Museum is housed in this fort. The fort is open to public and thousands of historical tourists visit this fort every year.
