Location
Dr. Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary is situated around 14 km from Bambolim and is considered as the only bird sanctuary in Goa. Covering an area of around 1.8 sq km, it is located along the Mandovi River on the western region of the Chorao Island. The sanctuary was named after Dr. Salim Ali, who is counted among the famous ornithologists of India.
This sanctuary houses around 400 species of migratory and local birds. In addition to birds, flying foxes, crocodiles and jackals can also be seen in the sanctuary. It is surrounded by mangrove vegetation and houses a variety of insects and fish.
