Avantishwar Temple

Location

The Avantishwar Temple is among the significant monuments and religious attractions of Pulwama District. This temple is situated in Jawbrari Village of the district and is said to have been built by Raja Awanti Varma, in the 9th Century AD. Raja Awanti also chose this place as his capital, instead of Srinagar. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva, whose idols are installed at this temple.

Payer Temple

Location

The Payer Temple is one of the most popular religious attractions of Pulwama and is situated 3 km south of Pulwama District. This temple is named after the Payer Village, where it is located. This temple is also called as the Payech Temple by several travellers. Regarding the architecture of this temple, it is said that it has been carved out of a monolith stone adn dates back to the 10th century.

Ziarat of Baba Reshi

Location

The Ziarat of Baba Reshi is a popular shrine of Baramula, situated near the Alpather Lake at 13 km from Gulmarg and belongs to saint Baba payam-Din. Baba payam-Din was a well-known Muslim saint as well as a courtier of the king of Kashmir, Zain-ul-Abidin. This shrine is that very site where Baba payam-Din died in 1480 after spending his days in prayer and meditation.

Narsingh Ji temple

Location

The Narsingh Ji temple, a 1600 year old shrine, is located in the Ghagwal town of Kathua District in Jammu and Kashmir. This shrine is dedicated to Lord Narsingh, also known as Lord Narashima, a form of Lord Vishnu. A samadhi of Baba Nar Hari Dass Ji Maharaj can also be spotted within the temple complex.

There is a Maha Mandleshwar Gaddi in this temple, which is known as Sh. Amarnath Jammu & Kashmir Nagar Khalsa. An idol of Mata Annapurna in her unified form can be viewed during fairs organised on occasions like Janamasthmi, Ratha Khara and Makar Sankranti.

Gurdwara Singh Sabha

Location

Gurdwara Singh Sabha is located at the main chowk of Kathua city, around 2 km away from the city bus stand. It is also called the Gurdwara Chowk, where there is an office of the Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee and a Sikh Missionary College. The Gurdwara celebrates Gurpurab and Prakash Utsav, followed by a car festival and Nagar Kirtan.

Sapt Sarober Mandir

Location

The Sapt Sarober Mandir, located in Krishna Nagar, was constructed by Bhagat Chajju Ram in 1969. It is believed that Choudhary Hari Singh and Choudhary Devidutta donated the land and other resources for the construction of this shrine.

The shrine derives its name from the word Saptarishi, meaning ‘seven sages’. There is a pathshala in this temple, which offers accommodation.

Asha Purani Mandir

Location

Asha Purani Mandir, also known as the Prachin Mandir, is situated in the main bazaar of Kathua City. This temple was constructed by Bhagat Chajju Ram in 1949 and has a 10 ft high idol of Goddess Durga on its roof.

It is commonly believed that this temple is situated on a place where the ashes or veins of Goddess Durga fell and hence, the temple is known as the Asha Purani temple.
