Dinman Hardaul's Palace

Location

Hardaul was a son of Bir Singh Ju Deo, and died to prove his innocence to his elder brother Jhujhar who cast doubts on his relationship with his (Jhujhar's) consort. This saintly prince was, after his martyrdom, worshipped as a god, and even today, the villages of Bundelkhand contain platform -like shrines where Hardaul is worshipped.

Bison Lodge

Location

The oldest house in Pachmarhi, Bison Lodge is constructed in 1862 by Captain Forsyth. It was used by Captain to survey and explore the surrounding forests.

Now this building houses a museum, which exhibits the rich flora and fauna of Pachmarhi. One can also seen stuffed tigers and a huge stuffed bison inside the lodge. Marvelous photographs of Pachmarhi and samples of wood from the neighboring forests also are put on show in this beautiful museum.

Ashoka Pillar

Location

One of the most important Tourist Attractions of Sanchi is the Ashoka Pillar. It is located near the southern gateway of the famous Sanchi Stupa.

The Ashoka Pillar was erected in the 3rd century B.C. It is rather unfortunate but the total Ashoka Pillar does not stand here now. The shaft of the pillar can only be seen at the gateway and the crown has been kept in the museum. The crown of the Ashoka Pillar consists of the four lions that stand back to back. The figure of these lions was later adopted as the National Emblem of India.

Buddhist Vihara

Location

The Buddhist Vihara is one of those masterpieces that is well worth a visit. There was a Stupa a few kilometers from Sanchi. It was known by the name of Satdhara Stupa. The relics of this Stupa which definitely has a great deal of sentimental value to Buddhists are kept in the Buddhist Vihara, Sanchi. They have been enclosed in a glass casket. The glass casket has been kept in the Inner sanctum of this modern monastery.

Chhatris

Location

The Chhatris are dedicated to the Scindhias. They are the cenotaphs of Madho Rao Scindhia and his queen.

The royal tombs of the Scindias are situated in a baroque Mughal Garden with green orchards, pleasant corners under beautiful flowering trees, and crisscrossed pathways. Spectacular mugal pavilions decorated with beautiful lampshades, Chhatris depicts the cenotaphs of late kings and Queens of the Scindia clan. The monuments of Madhav Rao Scindia and dowager queen Maharani Sakhya are really attractive for their amusing Hindu and Islamic architectural styles.

George Castle

Location

The George Castle in Shivpuri is located within the mysterious depths of the forests of the Madhav National Park. The George Castle was built by Jiwaji Rao Scindhia. There is a very amazing story associated with the construction of the George Castle. In the year 1911, King George V came to India from England. On that trip he was supposed to pass through this area. Being interested in Tiger shooting he would halt for a night at this place. Jiwaji Rao ordered the construction of this castle so that he could reside here overnight.

Kalideh Palace

Location

Situated on an island in the river Shipra, Kaliadeh Palace was built in the year 1458 AD by the Sultans of Mandu. The palace was demolished at the time of the Pindaris and was restored to its former glory by Madhav Rao Scindia in 1920. The central hall, which is surrounded with galleries, presents a classic example of Persian architecture. Though lost in the loneliness of the torrents of Shipra River, even now, this water palace holds some religious significance. People from the nearby villages took a dip in one of the tanks, which is called as Surya Kund.

Heliodoros Pillar

Location

According to Purana's 'Bhagabhadra' was a King of Sunga Dynasty. During his reign the Greek King Antialcidas of Taxila sent Dion's son Heliodorous, as his personal Ambassador to the Sunga court at Vidisha and a part of this information is inscribed on a lofty Garuda Pillar (Eagle Mounted Tower) locally named as Kham-Baba a favourite deity of Bhois or Dhimars.The inscription engraved on the pillar records the name of the pillar as Garuda-dhvaja, the column surmounted by Garuda which was erected by Heliodorous in the honour of God Vasudeo in front of the temple of Vasudeva.
