Abhayapuri

Location

Abhayapuri is a small town situated in the Bongaigaon District on the National Highway 31. Located at a distance of around 200 km west of Guwahati, this town is covered with forests and hills.

It served as the capital of the ancient Bijni Kingdom, which was ruled by King Bijit Narayan alias Chandra Narayan. This ancient town was ruled by various kings like Joy Narayan, Shiv Narayan, Bijoy Narayan, Mukunda Narayan, Haridev Narayan and many more.

Location

Bardubi is a small village situated at a distance of around 12 km from Tinsukia. Bardubi means ‘big depression’ in the local dialect. This village is surrounded by snow-capped mountains and is an ideal picnic spot.

Sadiya is a sub-divisional headquarters of the district of Tinsukia. This place was once the central market for all the tribes residing in the north-eastern region. It is popular for a temple named Tameswari, which is a Shakti worship centre of Assam. This place can be reached by crossing the Brahmaputra River through a ferry, from the Dhola Ghat.

Location

Jatinga is a popular destination while visiting Silchar. Jatinga, situated in the verdant valleys of North Cachar Hills, is famous for its orange orchids. This place also attracts ornithologists and bird watchers, as it is visited by huge flocks of migratory birds every year. This place is also noted for its phenomenal 'bird suicide', wherein the migratory birds hurt themselves to cause their death.
